Oil and water. Dogs and cats. Sweet and sour. We’re so used to talking about heaven and earth like they’re two separate things that can’t touch, that could never meet. The truth is right there in the Lord’s Prayer, though. God wants earth to come under His rule so that it looks like heaven (Matthew 6:10). Earth and heaven might be two very different places, but God wants them to meet. What does that look like, then? Well, if there’s no fear in heaven, then His perfect love can cast out fear on earth. If there’s no illness in heaven, then His power can cast out disease here on earth. If there’s no poverty in heaven, then His resources can change lives on earth. Jesus’ whole ministry on earth was about this. His life was anchored in heaven, so while He walked on earth, He knew that what was His in heaven was available on earth. You’re the same. God’s anchored your life in heaven (Colossians 3:3). So, while you walk around on earth, you can draw on that deeper reality. You can face any situation without fear. You can pray for healing. You can challenge poverty. God’s put you in heaven, anchored you there, and given you the resources of heaven. He’s just waiting for you to do something with that.
