Where do you feel safe? Wrapped up in a blanket as you fall asleep? With your family? Maybe you’ve got that one spot that you retreat to when the day’s gone badly and you just want the world to go away and leave you alone for a while. The problem with all these things is that eventually, however hard we cling to them, we must leave them at some point. We must crawl out from under our warm, comfy duvet. We must spend time away from home. We must go and face the world again. But what if we could capture that safe, secure feeling and carry it with us all the time? You know what – we already can. Let’s take a look at what Psalm 91:9-10 says: ‘If you make the LORD your refuge, if you make the Most High your shelter, no evil will conquer you; no plague will come near your home’ (NLT). When we put our faith in God, when we run to Him and make Him the first thing in our lives, we can be sure of His protection. Nothing can hurt who we are. Nothing can take Him away from us. We might still feel scared and nervous sometimes, but there’ll be an underlying peace and security that comes from Him, which can’t be removed. No evil thing can get near God, so the safest place for us is with Him. He’s the best shelter imaginable – all we need to do is to step closer to Him and refuse to leave His side.
What now?
Today, decide to stay by God’s side all the time. Ask Him that you would really feel His presence and experience His shelter.
