One of the biggest topics that Solomon tackles in the book of Proverbs is about God’s perspective on sex. His letter to his children and students contains a lot of warnings about the misuse of sex and the damage and heartache it can bring. The three largest sections in Proverbs that deal with this one topic are found in chapters 5 to 7. In chapters 5 and 6, Solomon dealt exclusively with premarital sex – fornication. He devoted nearly the whole of chapter 7 to extramarital sex – adultery. And in between, he gave an honest discussion of sex within the will of God. The thing is, we come across all sorts of things in everyday life that can make God’s design for sex seem boring, while sex outside of marriage seems exciting and glamorous. But if Solomon devoted so much time to teaching his children God’s perspective, it must be important advice, right? Something we should take notice of. Just like we were talking about yesterday, it’s advice that’s designed to protect us and keep us safely on God’s path. It might be something we feel uncomfortable talking about with parents and mentors, but when their advice is backed up by what God tells us in the Bible, we know we can trust and listen to it.

What now?
Today, read Proverbs 5-7, keeping in mind that it’s a letter of advice from a parent to their child. Make a conscious decision to follow that advice.
