How can we be sure the Bible is divinely inspired and we can trust it? By the prophecies that have been fulfilled! No other religion has such specific, repeated, and unfailing fulfilment of predictions. Those predictions were made many years in advance, and predicted by people who had no control over the outcome. Finite human beings can only know the future if it’s told to them by an infinite being – in other words: God. He provided this evidence for us so we could be sure that the Bible has a divine author: ‘For I am God…Declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times things that are not yet done’ (vv. 9-10 NKJV). Out of the Bible’s sixty-six books, written between 1400 BC and AD 90, approximately 3,856 verses are about prophecy. And here’s the best part… over 25 per cent of the entire Bible contains specific prophecies that have literally already been fulfilled. Sir Isaac Newton said, ‘I find more sure marks of authenticity in the Bible than in any profane history whatsoever.’ We might wonder why people don’t believe the Bible. The answer is because they haven’t opened their hearts to God! Paul wrote: ‘No one knows the things of God except the Spirit of God. Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might know the things that have been freely given to us by God. These things we also speak, not in words which man’s wisdom teaches but which the Holy Spirit teaches…the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned’ (1 Corinthians 2:11-14 NKJV).
