The Bible says God ‘filled them with skill to do all manner of work of the engraver and the designer and the tapestry maker, in blue, purple, and scarlet thread, and fine linen, and of the weaver – those who do every work and those who design artistic works’ (v. 35 NKJV). When God calls you to do something, He’s already placed the ability to do it within you. Satan hopes you’ll never discover that. He wants you to be trapped in the status quo, believing that you’re not good enough to do what God asks, and that the way things are is how they’ll always be. But the Bible says ‘There is a time for everything, and everything on earth has its special season’ (Ecclesiastes 3:1 NCV). As long as we’re content to stay as we are, we won’t begin to think creatively. But when we decide we want life to change for the better, we become teachable and open ourselves up to creativity. It doesn’t have to be intimidating or overwhelming – remember that creativity begins with just one idea. Then those ideas multiply and grow! And each creative idea we have helps us become creative thinkers. The poet Maya Angelou said: ‘You can’t use up creativity. The more you use, the more you have. Sadly, too often creativity is smothered rather than nurtured. There has to be a climate in which new ways of thinking, perceiving, and questioning are encouraged.’ If we cultivate creative thinking, there’s no telling what kind of ideas we’ll come up with or how far we’ll change things for the better. So, are you ready to start? Ask God for a creative idea, then step out in faith and act on it.
